Hello and welcome to my personal web site!
I am Associate Professor of Political Science at the Department of Social and Political Sciences of the University of Milan. Before I held an Assistant Professor (tenure-track) position and research fellowhsips at the University of Milan and the University of Siena. Since July 2019 I am involved in the ERC funded project "Policy Crisis and Crisis Politics. Sovereignty, Solidarity and Identity in the EU post-2008" (SOLID) supervised by Maurizio Ferrera (UNIMI), Hanspeter Kriesi (EUI) and Waltraud Schelkle (LSE), and since 2022 I am also involved in the DEMOPE ("Democracy under Pressure") project co-funded by the Italian Ministry of Higher Education supervised by Andrea Ceron. I am a member of the editorial board of EUVisions, an online observatory that tracks ideas, discourse and politics of social Europe, for which I am also a senior public opinion analyst and researcher. My main research interests are in the field of comparative politics, in particular electoral competition and government alternation, political representation, political support, public opinion, Euroscepticism and European solidarity, corruption. With Giovanni Carbone (University of Milan) I have developed the Africa Leadership Change (ALC) dataset, that tracks all the leadership changes occurred in sub-Saharan African countries since 1960. In March 2020 Giovanni Carbone and I have published our book entitled "Political Leaders in Africa. Leaders and Development South of the Sahara" (Cambridge University Press). By making use of the ALC dataset we have investigated the association between different modes of leadership changes and the developmental performance of sub-Saharan African countries. In these pages you can find my C.V., publications, the datasets I have contributed to develop and my dissemination activities. |
